At The International Quilt Festival Houston…

October 21st, 2009 by Jamie

Hey, I’m back from America. The Quilt Festival in Houston was fantastic! There was so much to see. Within the exhibition I saw a wide spectrum of work ranging from traditional quilts to elaborate art quilts. It was great to see such innovative work.

Quilt

What struck me was the sense of community, everyone at the exhibition was there for the same reason, all there because they love fabric, love quilting and love stitch. It was heart warming to feel part of something so inspiring, to be part of a creative family, an international community. Meeting many of the artists face to face was the cherry on the cupcake for me.

To catch a glimpse of the some of photos we took at Houston, visit the Colouricious Flickr page here.

A thoroughly crafty day out…

October 19th, 2009 by Holly

I have just come back from Winchester, after spending the day trawling the many wonderful shops they have there, it is a stitchers dream! I have never visited Winchester before and was very happy to find a HUGE fabric “department store”- C & H. Three floors of upholstery, curtain, dress and quilt fabric, yarns and ribbons and threads and beads- everything a stitchy girl could want! I was in heaven! I bought some wadding (I’m going to make a tea cosy), some cotton cord (to make a necklace from my bead jar) and some gorgeous merino knitting yarn (I’m a terrible knitter but I couldn’t resist!)

Another great shop I found was Creative Crafts- down a little side street. It was an Aladdin’s cave of crafty bits and bobs.  I spent a good half hour trawling the miniature draws they have there- full of jewellery findings.

My favourite shop of all in Winchester has to be The Hambledon- a very chic lifestyle shop set in a double fronted Georgian town house with the most gorgeous mix of clothes, homeware, kid’s things and vintage furniture. I would move in tomorrow if I could!

Anyhow enough from me…I’m off to make a tea cosy (with my newly purchased wadding)… stay posted for news on “Colouricious does the Quilt Festival- Houston, Texas!” We shall upload some pictures too!
